Al Naboodah wins deal for Sowwah infrastructure

Dubai: Al Naboodah Construction Group on Thursday said, that it has been awarded the contract for Phase 1 of Sowwah Island infrastructure by Mubadala Real Estate & Hospitality.

The contract involves the construction of four bridges and five kilometres of elevated roadways which, once completed, will act as the major road and utilities links between the centre of Abu Dhabi and Sowwah Square on Sowwah Island, the heart of the new central business district, and Reem Island, the company said in a statement, without giving the value of the contract.

"This is the first EPC contract awarded by Mubadala in respect of the development of Sowwah Island and is a significant step towards meeting the targets of the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 Urban Structure Framework. We are delighted to have been awarded this contract as it serves to further reinforce Al Naboodah's commitment to providing the highest quality, most cost-effective and sustainable solutions, tailored to the needs of individual customers," said Steve Lever, chief executive of Al Naboodah Construction Group.

Clear choice

"Al Naboodah Construction Group was a clear choice for the infrastructure work on Sowwah Island given their proven track record within the industry, and we look forward to working with them on this project," said John Thomas, executive director, Mubadala Real Estate & Hospitality.

Phase 1 infrastructure works for Sowwah Island are scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2010.
